My first half marathon & I’m soooo nervous/excited/scared/anxious and pretty much every emotion you can think of is pulsating through my body right now. Trying to remind myself to breath and just think positive because all in all I know I can do this it’s just my ankle that’s worrying me!
I made the decision to run the battleship 1/2 marathon in Wilmington NC about a month and half ago and began training way later than I needed too; and me being the most stubborn girl in the world overdid it last week while wearing a pair of old sneakers on a 6 mile run and either pulled a muscle or tore/strained a ligament in my left ankle. I did some research and apparently you can heal it in 4 days using the RICE method- Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation however two days after injuring i chose to ignore it passing it off as a bruised heel and did a 4 mile run which intensified it and caused me to limp the past week : / So now the past week I was unable to do any last runs or cardio and I’ve been camping out on the couch when I’m not working icing and elevation my asshole ankle.
I was desperately hoping this morning when I woke up it would finally feel better and my limp would be gone however, it still has a sore/tender feeling when I walk barefoot and I’m slightly limping…nerves are shot. So now I’m spending all day on the couch with ice packs and stacked pillows, incorporating a few episom salt soaks, and gentle foot massages praying to god that at 5 am tomorrow I’ll wake up feeling good as new again ready to rock this race.
It’s been awhile since I chose a healthy activity to invest my time in and get excited about which is why I’m so worried my ankle is going to prevent me from being able to run tomorrow. The transformation I’ve made physically and mentally has been drastic and wonderful, throwing myself into running has allowed a lot of personal growth for me and was something I really needed before I spiraled out of control. The past year has been a rocky one and I’m excited for tomorrow to be my turning point and landmark for the new me and the days ahead. Wish me luck! Pray for my ankle & that I’ll survive my first 1/2 marathon : )
